HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR LEATHER BAG ? - ADVICE FROM VP - VALET DE PIQUE

In this article from our leather section we talk about leather care.

We firmly believe in the motto, "If you love your bag, it will love you back."

Taking care of one of our leather products is like taking care of your skin or watering a plant (or even growing a beard!) - it needs care and love to be beautiful. Here are some tips from the experts at VP (Valet de pique) to help you care for your bag, from pastel spring shades to classic darker tones - the same rules apply.

THE EFFECT OF AGING

Teddy bears, fine wine, white sneakers, cheese, George Clooney - some things just get better with age. The patina (aging) effect of leather is much appreciated and admired: it comes from natural wear and tear. We use hard leather for strength and durability. Our leather is designed to soften and transform over time, but like our skin, pollution, heat and rain will all try to strip the leather of its natural oils. Keep it soft and supple by taking good care of it. Over time, you'll end up with a bag that's personal to you.

TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT

Our coated leather is extremely durable and reasonably resistant to surface damage. As a general rule, you should keep the leather away from rough, sharp metal objects and be careful when putting it down. That being said, we understand that accidents can sometimes happen and we believe that every scratch tells the story of your life with your bag.

RAIN OR SHINE

Like us, our leather bags hate getting wet (but they are made in Paris, so they have learned to handle the sometimes "changeable" weather!) If your bag gets wet, wipe it with a dry cloth and let it dry naturally. Never force dry it with a hair dryer or heater. You can buy leather waterproofing products if you are constantly in bad weather conditions.

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
Store your bag in a clean, dry place - each bag comes with a specially designed dust bag, perfect for keeping it safe and scratch-free during storage. If you don't have a dust bag, an old pillowcase will do!

THE INSIDE IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE OUTSIDE
Keep cosmetics in a pouch, seal pens or anything else that leaks. Get a small pencil case to protect the leather.

ACCIDENTS HAPPEN
If you spill something on or in your bag, we recommend taking it to a professional cleaner who can assess the damage and clean/waterproof your bag accordingly. We recommend using cleaning products specifically designed for leather, but of course talking to an expert would be the best option.

IT'S ALL ABOUT FINDING THE RIGHT PRODUCTS
You can buy leather care products at any store that are designed to help you properly care for your bag. Apply weekly.

Always do a test patch on a small area and leave on for 24 hours. Do not hesitate to contact us for more details on how to care for your binder.

We hope this information helps you and your bag have a long and happy life together.

If you have any further questions about the care of your binder, please do not hesitate to contact our experts or our customer service team (martin@valetdepique.fr) who will be happy to assist you.
